Use your La Charité-sur-Loire gîte as a base to discover our picturesque, medieval town and the Surrounding Region. You could visit the fantastic Chateau Saint Fargeau and the Guédelon Chateau which is under construction in the manner in which it would have been built in the 13th century. Wine tasting tours, chateau tours, canal tours, hiking, cycling, golfing, fishing, swimming, hot-air ballooning, medieval festivals, music festivals, antique fairs and book fairs are just some of the many activities which will keep you busy during your stay.  We offer four bicycles for rent at 10 euros each per week on a 'first come first serve basis'.  Each gîte has internet (WIFI) access.
 
Nevers (35 km) which has a Ducal Palace and is famous for its faience (pottery). Magny-Cours   (45 km) Where F1-automobile and motorcycle racing takes place each year. Auxerre and Vezelay , ancient cathedral cities (60km). Bourges (50 km) with its gothic cathedral built between the 12th and 13th centuries. It also has an ancient food market and many beautiful medieval half-timbered houses. There is also Briare 45km) with its wonderful ‘pont canal’ over the Loire River (designed in part by Gustav Eiffel). Abbay de Fontmorigny (15 km) beautifully restored 12th century abbey and gardens. These are but a few of the many places to see and to explore within one hour of La Charité-sur-Loire 
 
Within a two hour drive you could explore the wonderful chateaus in the lower Loire river valley. Some of the better-known, and most visited châteaux, are: Amboise, Angers, Azay-le-Rideau,Blois, Chambord, Chenonceaux, Cheverny, and Villandry.

  

If you decide to ‘pop into PARIS:  for the day, Paris is only one hour and 45 minutes away on the autoroute A77. We recommend that you leave your car at the Porte d’Orleans parking garage and take the Paris Metro. You can leave La Charité-sur-Loire at 7:30 in the morning, arrive when the stores open, enjoy a full day of sight-seeing and shopping and be home for dinner.

 

From your gîte in La Charité-sur-Loire you will have easy access to the ancient manmade and natural wonders of the regions of Bourgogne, Auvergne, Rhone-Alps and Centre.

For the wine lovers - La Charité-sur-Loire is located between the red wine vineyards of Burgundy and the white wine regions of Sancerre and Pouilly-sur-Loire. Sancerre is located 25 km north of La Charité-sur-Loire and Pouilly-sur -Loire is just 10 km away. There are wine caves galore where your palette can savour Auxerrois, Chablis, Cote de Beaune, Cote de Nuits, Vezelien, Maconnais, Chalonnaise, Sancerre and Pouilly wines among others. BICYCLES for hire. We have four bicycles complete with helmets, available on a first come first served basis, that can be rented for €10 per week. There are miles of relatively flat paths in the area just waiting to be explored.
